Ferrovial to build three photovoltaic plants in Murcia, Spain, with capacity to supply 30,500 homes

Ferrovial will build three new photovoltaic plants for TotalEnergies and Soltec in Spain’s Murcia region. The plants will have a total capacity of 116 MWp, which is enough clean energy to supply 30,500 homes. Ferrovial will also operate the plants for the first two years. These projects reaffirm Ferrovial’s long-standing commitment to renewable energy sources and strengthen its relationship with TotalEnergies as a strategic client.

The new photovoltaic plants will avoid the emission of approximately 4,500 tons of CO₂ each year, promoting decarbonization and incorporating clean energy sources into the electricity grid. Construction and operation of these facilities will stimulate local development, creating nearly 350 direct jobs and encouraging the use of high-efficiency technologies.

The Luminora Solar Tres plant, located in the municipalities of Murcia and Torre Pacheco, will have a capacity of 95 MWp. Ferrovial will manage the design and construction of the facility along with its connection infrastructure. Equipped with a substation and a 5-kilometer overhead line to transport the generated energy, the plant will maximize efficiency by comprising approximately 150,000 cutting-edge bifacial tracking solar panels. The plant will reduce CO₂ emissions by 3,700 tons per year.

The Fuente Álamo I and II plants, located in the eponymous municipality, will have a combined capacity of 21 MWp and an 8-kilometer medium-voltage line. The facilities will avoid emitting 800 tons of CO₂ per year with more than 33,000 bifacial solar panels.

Construction and site preparation are expected to begin shortly and be completed in the second half of 2026. Both projects will feature advanced monitoring and control systems to optimize performance, including weather stations and a security system with cameras and access control. The Luminora Solar Tres substation and high-voltage infrastructure will also help improve the region’s electricity grid.

This contract adds to Ferrovial’s growing portfolio of renewable energy projects. Other recent developments in Spain include the construction of the 62-MWp Trevago I and II solar plants in Soria and the 17.8-MWp Caléndula solar plant in Valladolid.

In the United States, Ferrovial built the 72 MW Liberty plant in Houston, which includes a 60 MW battery energy storage system. Construction work has also recently begun on a 257 MWdc solar photovoltaic plant located in Leon County, Texas.
