Ferrovial has acquired the Spanish telecommunications and systems engineering company Powernet, which will enable it to reinforce its capabilities in the design, development, operation, and maintenance of data centers within its Construction division.
Powernet, founded in 1989, is headquartered in Madrid and has offices in Barcelona and A Coruña. The company specializes in designing, installing, maintaining, and operating data centers. Additionally, it offers information systems and telecommunications solutions, providing services in communications, systems, and network management.
José Gabriel Lao will be the new Managing Director of Powernet. Lao has an extensive professional career at Ferrovial, having joined the company in 1997 as a site manager. In 2008, he moved to the company’s water management division, Cadagua, where he has held various positions of responsibility in production, sales, and business development.
Ferrovial has more 10 years of experience in the data center sector, mainly in Spain, where it has developed projects for leading international companies. In 2024, it created the Digital Infrastructure division to expand its role in this booming sector, moving from construction to playing a role as a global investor and developer.
