LBJ Infrastructure Group (LBJIG) sponsored the first annual MakerSpace instant challenge for the 6 Carrollton-Farmers Branch middle schools.

The event was held in January at CFBISD’s Educational Services Building, and 8 LBJ volunteers helped judge the STEM competition.

In total, there more than 90 students involved in the event which kicked off at 10:00 a.m. and ended at 2:00 p.m. The purpose of the challenge was to have MakerSpaces teams from each middle school compete without any idea on the type of STEM activity that would be assigned.

Meaning, they had no preparation beforehand. Students were timed during each STEM activity and were tested on teamwork, leadership and their math & science skills.

This STEM competition was inspired and made possible by the LBJ Express $40,000 STEM grant that was awarded to CFBISD as part of its CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) Plan.

Through the MakerSpace program, nearly 15 teachers are trained to teach with STEM tools each year. To date, more than 5,500 students have been exposed to science, technology, math and engineering in a fun and engaging way thanks to LBJ Express.

Congratulations to all the volunteers in this initiative!
