Ferrovial’s Board of Directors has appointed Andrés Sacristán as CEO of Cintra, the company’s toll road division, to replace Alejandro de la Joya, who has held that position since November 2018.
Andrés Sacristán (Madrid, 1971) has spent most of his career at Cintra. In 2017, he moved to North America as a result of being appointed CEO of 407 ETR in Toronto, one of Ferrovial’s main assets. Last year he was chosen to head Cintra’s operations in the United States, the country that Ferrovial views as having the greatest potential. The company undertakes projects in Texas, Virginia and North Carolina. Having graduated in Civil Engineering from Madrid Polytechnical University, Andrés Sacristán joined Cintra in 2001. He held a number of positions in the car parks division, including Head of Development, before joining Cintra, the toll roads division, where he was Head of Operations at Eurolink and Manager of Radial 4. In 2010, he was appointed Cintra country manager for Spain and joined the company’s Executive Committee; in 2013 he was appointed Head of Europe, and in 2015 he took charge of the Australian and Colombian markets, before moving to North America.
“Andrés has the skill set to manage Cintra at this time, as his extensive successes in the United States and Canada mean he is superbly placed to guide the company as mobility returns to normal, considering also that North America offers many opportunities for our investments,” said Ignacio Madridejos, CEO of Ferrovial.
Before his appointment as CEO of Cintra, Alejandro de la Joya (Madrid, 1967) was CEO of Ferrovial Construcción. A civil engineer, he joined Ferrovial in 1991 and worked in Spain, Morocco, Italy, Portugal and Poland.

Cintra, Ferrovial’s toll road division, is one of the world’s leading developers and operators of transport infrastructure concessions. It currently manages 1,475 kilometers under 23 concession in eight countries. Cintra is specialized in complex high value concessions in congested urban areas, having pioneered the development of managed lanes in the United States. It operates the following roads, among others: 407 ETR (Toronto), NTE and LBJ (Texas), I-77 (North Carolina), I-66 (Virginia), as well as Autema, A-66 and Ausol (Spain). In 2020, it collected 340 million euro from its main assets.
