On December 6, Ferrovial Construction was awarded the contract to improve the connection between the Vespucio Norte Highway and Route 68 on the outskirts of Santiago de Chile.
The works, which are part of the “Chile se Recupera Plan¨, will benefit the inhabitants of the Pudahuel and Maipú districts by providing new connections that will facilitate traffic on the Vespucio Norte Highway, with a ring around the Chilean capital, as well as vehicles heading to the Valparaíso Region along Route 68. In addition, new connections will be created on Route 68 linking local streets and, in the case of the Américo Vespucio axis, local roads will be given continuity with two lanes in each direction.
The project, which involves the construction of 2 km of new lanes, has a cost of approximately 40 million euros and a completion period of 18 months.
The improvement of the connection of the Vespucio Norte Highway with Route 68 includes the replacement of the current cloverleaf-type junction with a new circular, mill-type junction, always maintaining at least two lanes in each direction on each of the connections, which translates into the elimination of all braided sections.
The project also includes the construction of four lanes from the junction with Route 68 south to Los Mares Street, which will increase the capacity of this section, as well as the improvement of 3 pedestrian walkways over the road.
In addition, green areas will be expanded through a landscaping project that includes different types of acoustic mitigations, a new LED lighting system and surveillance cameras, among others.
