The Texas Department of Transportation (TXDOT) awarded Webber a $113.6 million contract to widen State Highway 36 in Brazoria County.
The project will take place in West Columbia, a town south of Houston, and will extend for 7.3 miles, from north of CR 467 to Hogg Ranch Road. The scope of work consists of widening SH 36 from a one-lane asphalt road to a new two-lane concrete paved roadway with a designated middle turn lane, the construction of seven bridges and improvements of flood water drainage as this segment is adjacent to the Brazos River. A new overpass constructed at the intersection of SH 35 will also be added.
This project will include 295,000 cubic yards of excavation, 400,000 cubic yards of embankment, 360,000 square yards of concrete paving and 41,000 linear feet of storm drainage.
This project is part of the SH 36 corridor improvement effort led by TxDOT to add additional capacity during hurricane evacuations in the area and to increase safety and mobility given the projected population growth in the region.
Construction will begin the first quarter of 2023 and completion is expected by the end of 2025.
