The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) awarded Webber projects in the Amarillo District to expand SL 335,the Houston District to widen SH 99 and to broaden SL 278 in the San Angelo District.

The $133.9 million State Loop 335 project in Amarillo will consist of 5.6 miles of main lane and frontage road construction. The works for this project will include approximately 789,000 cubic yards of excavation, 343,000 cubic yards of embankment, 292,000 square yards of cement stabilized sub-grade and 74,000 tons of hot mixed asphalt pavement. There are also nine bridges with 83,000 square feet of Mechanically Stabilized Earth (MSE) and soil nail retaining walls, as well as 46,000 square yards of concrete mixed-use path.

This is the second project that Webber will build on SL 335 in Amarillo – the first being the BNSF Rail yard Steel Girder Bridge project on the south portion of SL 335 awarded in 2016. With this project, State Loop 335 will be complete and will help relieve the traffic flow on the east/west bound IH 40 and north/south bound IH 27 through Amarillo. The construction of approximately 10 miles of mixed-use path will also provide a walking/jogging and bike path on the north side of the city. Construction will begin in June of this year and it is expected to be completed in late 2026.

Taking place on SH 99 from West Park Tollway to IH-10 in Katy, the $90 million SH 99 Fort Bend County project is expected to begin construction in April and finish in mid 2025. This project includes the widening of 6.5 miles of interior main lane, as well as broadening the incremental exterior main lane and the expansion of numerous bridges. Other works will include a minor frontage road realignment, ramp reversals, intersection expansions at several cross streets and an expansion of the existing storm sewer system with the addition of underground Reinforced Concrete Box (RCB) detention systems.

The existing roadway configuration is two main lanes in each direction, with limited frontage road infrastructure in a very populated area. Construction on the interior main lanes will take place even as high-volume traffic continues in that area thanks to Webber’s expertise with similar projects. Once completed, the widening of SH 99 will alleviate traffic congestion at all times, especially during morning and evening rush hours.

In San Angelo, the $39.8 million SL 378 Tom Green County project will consist of the reconstruction of roughly two miles of SL 278 to make room for a new, continuous center left turn lane. This project will include the upgrading of pedestrian elements and utility rehabilitation, as well as the construction of sidewalks along both sides of the corridors. Approximately 10,000 linear feet of new waterline will also be installed as joint-bid utilities for the city of San Angelo.

With numerous businesses along this corridor, adding the center left turn lane will assist in alleviating traffic congestion. The SL 378 Tom Green County project is expected to start construction in August with an estimated completion date of May 2026.
