Ferrovial has been recognized as one of the most sustainable companies in the construction and engineering sector by the Dow Jones Sustainability Index (DJSI). The index, produced by S&P Global, is the most prestigious in the world in the area of sustainability. This year, there are three companies in the industry in the worldwide ranking, and only two in the European index.
The company’s position is attributable to its sound environmental, social and economic performance, on the basis of which it has been a component of the DJSI for the last 21 years. The company performed particularly well in terms of climate strategy, operational eco-efficiency and social reporting.
Sound commitment to ESG
This recognition underscores the Company’s strategy in the environmental, social and economic areas. Ferrovial’s performance in this area has also been recognized by other sustainability indexes such as FTSE4Good (and its Spanish version, FTSE4Good IBEX), CDP, Vigeo, ISS ESG, Sustainalytics and GRESB.
Sustainability continues to be one of the company’s core values. For this reason, Ferrovial presented its Sustainability Strategy 2030, which hinges on three axes — environment, community and governance — and is aligned with its business strategy, the Horizon 24 plan. Ferrovial was also the first company to certify its sustainability strategy in coherence with the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDG), as audited by AENOR.
Its commitment to ESG goes beyond sustainability. This is evidenced by Ferrovial’s Corporate Governance certification by AENOR, making it the first infrastructure company to receive this distinction. The company also carries out social initiatives to ensure equal opportunities and it invests in the community through social programs that have improved the living standards of more than 558,000 people to date.
Created in 1999, the Dow Jones Sustainability Indexes are the world’s leading benchmark of corporate responsibility. There are about 2,500 companies in the eligible universe for the world index, of which only 10% are selected for the Dow Jones World Sustainability Index after an exhaustive analysis by S&P Global.
