GEOAmey awarded prison escort and custodial service contracts in the uk

GEOAmey, a joint venture formed by specialist US company GEO and Amey, a subsidiary of Ferrovial Servicios, has been awarded three contracts to provide prison escort and custody services in the United Kingdom by the UK Ministry of Justice. The agreement is worth up to 900 million pounds (1.035 billion euro) over up to 10 years. GEOAmey bid and has been awarded three out of four contracts tendered by Government to provide a range of services, including escorting people between courts and prisons, carrying out transfers between prisons and managing court custody suites and dock areas. The joint venture company will manage these services across all of England and Wales, except in London and the East region. The contracts will last for seven years and are worth a total of £90 million per annum with an option to extend up to a further three years. Santiago Olivares, CEO of Ferrovial Servicios comments that: "Our bid was based on combining GEO's extensive experience in these services with Amey's innovative approach to public service delivery in the UK. Together, we can achieve efficiencies through economies of scale, as well as bring innovation and fresh thinking to the sector". The GEOAmey joint venture is expected to employ approximately 3,000 professionals, who will be responsible for approximately 460 vehicles and approximately 2,600 daily prisoner movements.
