BAAs UK airports handled a total of 15.2 million passengers in August, an increase of 5.9%, making it BAA’s busiest month. Of the major markets, European scheduled traffic was up 8.2%, North Atlantic traffic grew 10.2% and other long-haul traffic increased 6.1%. Domestic grew 5.1% and Irish Republic traffic increased 1.3%.
European charter fell 5.7%. All of BAA’s UK airports saw an increase in traffic, with Heathrow, Gatwick, Stansted and Southampton 6.5%, 4.1%, 7.0% and 2.5% respectively. In Scotland, Glasgow grew 0.5%, Edinburgh 10.0% and Aberdeen 13.1%. The total number of air transport movements at BAA airports rose 3.2% and cargo tonnage was also up 2.6%, the first overall increase in a year.
