The Department for Transport (DfT) today published a consultation document which considers the future economic regulation of UK airports.
A BAA spokesman said: BAA welcomes the publication today by the DfT of consultation proposals in relation to the on-going review of the economic regulation of UK airports. We support the key policy objectives of the review, and will fully engage in the consultation process. It is important that future regulation improves customer service at every stage of the passenger journey, provides strong incentives for appropriate and timely investment in additional airport capacity and addresses the wider environmental impacts of aviation and airport development.
We particularly note the positive indication from the DfT that it will seek to create a transparent financial framework, which will place a duty on the regulator to ensure that airports can finance their licence activities. Given the importance of long-term, stable investment frameworks, we are pleased that the DfT has indicated that investors are important stakeholders in the consultation and will be invited to engage in the process. We expect to set out our views in due course.
