Ferrovial strengthens UK water sector presence with Anglian Water framework appointment

Ferrovial, through its UK Construction business and in partnership with MWH Treatment, has been appointed to Anglian Water’s Major Projects Framework, supporting the utility’s £11 billion AMP8 investment programme.

This appointment marks a significant step in Ferrovial’s continued growth in the UK water sector, reinforcing the company’s sustainable growth strategy for the region and expanding its position in essential infrastructure sectors with long-term investment plans. The framework builds on Ferrovial’s extensive international experience in water infrastructure and its proven capability to deliver large, technically demanding programmes through collaborative partnerships.

Anglian Water’s framework, valued at up to £1.5 billion across two contracts, will support the delivery of major water and water recycling schemes throughout the East of England. Ferrovial and MWH Treatment have been awarded one of the two contracts under the framework and will contribute to the delivery of a programme of projects designed to enhance network resilience, improve environmental outcomes and support the region’s future development.

Initial schemes for the joint venture are expected to include Anglian Water’s AMP8 coastal water improvement programme, with an estimated value exceeding £200 million, and will support the development of future strategic assets throughout AMP8 and AMP9, helping to meet increasing demand, strengthen critical infrastructure and safeguard the region’s water resources for the long term.

The East of England is one of the UK’s fastest-growing regions, with major developments including the Oxford-Cambridge Growth Corridor, Sizewell C and the proposed Universal Studios resort driving demand for resilient infrastructure. Through this appointment, Ferrovial will support the delivery of critical water and wastewater assets that underpin economic growth, environmental stewardship and the needs of expanding communities.

The Anglian Water Major Projects framework appointment follows the contract award earlier this year to upgrade the Slough Sewage Treatment Works (STW) for Thames Water. The c. £80 million scheme is being delivered through an integrated joint venture between Ferrovial’s construction division in the UK and water subsidiary, Cadagua. Both contracts build on Ferrovial’s expertise in the water sector globally and follow the successful delivery of the Central Section of the Thames Tideway Tunnel.
