Our company has been distinguished at the 17th edition of the Fundación Codespa Awards. His Royal Highness the Prince of Asturias attended the ceremony, held in Madrid at 12.30 on Thursday, 12 December 2013.
Rafael del Pino, Chairman of Ferrovial, collected the award and expressed his gratitude for the distinction. In his speech, he noted that Ferrovial's "Maji ni Uhai" project, in Tanzania, received the Fundación Codespa award in 2010.
He also underlined that there are currently "58 corporate volunteers who have participated on the ground. Close to 200 have applied to take part in the various editions. They spend two weeks in the host country, designing and planning the construction of infrastructure, analysing water, examining the terrain, preparing budgets, training local people in infrastructure maintenance, etc. This award is for them. It is their solidarity and commitment that makes it possible to transform the situation and the lives of those without access to a vital resource such as drinking water".
Through eight projects in Africa and Latin America, Ferrovial's Social Infrastructure programme has provided over 150,000 people with access to water and sewage infrastructure.
