Budimex and Ferrovial Agroman are to build the Racibórz Dolny flood-control dam in southwest Poland, for 903 million zlotys, equivalent to approximately 215 million euro.
The structure will be located on the Oder river, which runs through western Poland. With a height of 11 meters, the dam will comprise three earth dikes: one measuring 9.6 kilometers long on the left bank, one measuring 8.8 meters on the right bank, and a 4-kilometre central dam with a sluice gate. The area behind the dam will have a capacity of 185 million cubic meters of water.
The Racibórz Dolny reservoir will be filled only during floods, to protect the areas along the river Oder between Racibórz and Wrocław, with a population of 2.5 million people.
The contract expands Budimex’s experience in executing water infrastructure projects. Ferrovial Agroman’s Polish subsidiary was previously commissioned to refurbish Szczecin-Swinoujscie port, in northern Poland, the Płonie canal, en Gdansk, and the Rydzyna reservoir, in eastern Poland.
