During the outlining of the European Forum for Manufacturing at the European Parliament, Ferrovial Agroman participated in a dinner debate on the subject of ‘Digitizing Construction Machinery: The Role of Research Funding and Regulation‘
Laura Tordera, Head of Research and Development at Ferrovial Agroman, was the representative of the Construction Industry at the event and she focused her presentation on “New Technology: Transforming the Way We Shape Our Built Environment”, in which she emphasized that new technology is crucial in the future of the construction sector.
Laura highlighted that the application of digital technology in construction projects is enabling companies to boost productivity, manage complexity, reduce project delays, and enhance safety and security.
She specified that the use of Big Data and Analytics for the whole infrastructure life cycle will be a turning point:
Data is the new oil, the new currency in the digital world
Though it is not just the data, but it is the use of this data which is the most important element in this equation.
Lastly, she emphasized that small improvements will translate to huge benefits for companies, governments, and society in general. The Industry, as a whole, needs to drive this transformation:
We are the ones shaping our construction environment and we must continue being the leader of this transformation
The event, chaired by the Member of the Parliament, Paul Rübig, Member of the Industry Committee, brought together a unique blend of representatives from the European Parliament, the European Commission, Construction Industry companies, trade press, and other European Industry associations. They agreed that digitization of the construction sector should be one of the main priorities of the European Union Agenda.
Building on the findings of CECE’s Digitalization Project, CECE (Committee of European Construction Equipment) President Enrico Prandini explained the relevance of an adequate data policy that requires changes in the traditional data management rules:
Digitalization of the construction sector must be established as one of the main priorities of the EU political agenda through a clear identification of this sector as a priority focus for the upcoming Horizon Europe program
