Ferrovial creates Qatar subsidiary to develop its Services business in the Middle East

Ferrovial, a world-leading infrastructure company, and Qatari company Q.mobility have established Ferrovial Qatar to offer services in the fields of civil engineering, facility management, and infrastructure maintenance in the Emirate of Qatar and the region.

The new company, which will be based in Doha, offers new business opportunities for Ferrovial Services and is a further step forward in its internationalization strategy. The division obtained 62% of revenues from outside Spain in the first quarter of 2010. Santiago Olivares, CEO of Ferrovial Services, highlighted that “this operation is strategic for the company.

Ferrovial Qatar will offer Ferrovial’s full know-how and technology, as well as our experience and work methods, in the areas of civil engineering, facility management and road maintenance.” Fernando Guedán, General Manager of Ferrovial Qatar: “it is very important to have a Doha-based partner to ensure service quality and offer top-line after-sales maintenance.”

Fernando Guedán was formerly Head of Investment Projects at Ferrovial Services. Sheikh al Hussein Bin Ali Bin Ahmed Al Thani , chairman of Ferrovial Qatar, said that “the new Qatari company will have all the support needed from Ferrovial and Q.mobility to explore new opportunities, and prove itself on the local market in order to expand further in the region”.

Expanding internationally

Ferrovial has been operating in Saudi Arabia since 2006, via Cadagua, Ferrovial Agromán’s water subsidiary. It is the only Spanish company to have obtained a seawater desalination project in that country. The company has a permanent Middle East regional office in Dubai. Ferrovial Agromán also moved into India recently and has offices in New Delhi.

It has already landed a contact in India, to design and build a drinking water treatment plant in Hogenakkal, in Tamil Nadu state.
