Ferrovial enters its fourteenth straight year in the Dow Jones Sustainability Index (DJSI).The company is included in the DJSI Europe and DJSI World indices.
It is the only Spanish company in its industry to be included in the DJSI World index, in which there are only three Construction and Engineering firms. The other two are Hyundai (South Korea) and Vinci (France).
Inclusion in the index is a vindication of the sustainability strategy that Ferrovial has been implementing since 2002, when it joined the DJSI for the first time and was the only Spanish company in the index. Ferrovial has a Corporate Responsibility strategic plan linked to its business strategy, which is what has driven its implementation and development. The plan is renewed every three years to adapt to stakeholder expectations.
In the economic dimension, Ferrovial’s performance in terms of competition and customer relationship management was outstanding. Its score in the environmental dimension was particularly good in terms of operational efficiency and environmental reporting. In the social dimension, Ferrovial scored highly in community commitment, talent retention and attraction, and workplace health and safety. These results are a tribute to Ferrovial’s hard work to attain the goals of the Corporate Responsibility Strategic Plan (Plan 20.16).
Ferrovial was one of the first Spanish companies to sign the Global Compact, and it has ratified its commitment to the Ten Principles every year since 2002. Since then, the company has strengthened its position in favour of sustainability, as it has been in the FTSE4Good index since 2005 (and in its Spanish version, FTSE4Good IBEX, since 2008), the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP) and STOXX since 2010, and the MSCI since 2013, evidencing its firm commitment to Corporate Responsibility.
Since its creation in 1999, the family of Dow Jones Sustainability Indexes has become one of the world’s leading benchmarks for sustainable companies. Approximately 2,500 companies form part of the eligible universe for the world index, of which only 10% are selected for the Dow Jones World Sustainability Index after an exhaustive review by consulting firm RobecoSAM.
