buildingSMART is the worldwide construction platform that aims at transforming, renewing and innovating with new models in construction by integrating a digital ecosystem and open innovation based on international standards.
.
Sharing new information models during creation and operation of buildings and infrastructures throughout the world is the main objective of buildingSMART. This organization seeks collaboration and a balance between efficiency and the environment, taking into account economic and social benefits, stakeholders and institutions during the whole life cycle of the project.
A year ago, Ferrovial Agroman joined the 'Spanish Chapter' of this platform, which aims to achieve efficiency in the construction industry by using open standards of BIM (Building Information Modeling) to reach new levels of cost reduction, execution time and a better quality. Currently, Ferrovial Agroman colaborates in the areas of building, infrastructures and airports.
This new milestone of going international means that Ferrovial Agroman consolidates as a reference in the implementation of BIM processes, even counting with an exclusive denomination for them: 'FILM' (Ferrovial Agroman Infrastructure Lifecycle Management).
Growth opportunities for the sector: technology
Digitalizing construction processes and sharing information through intelligent building models is a step further, crucial in order to maintain leadership in a sector that faces constant change and a response to the need to keep seizing opportunities by creating value in the projects."Belonging to the buildingSMART platform will allow Ferrovial Agroman a significant influence in the technical aspects during the construction phase and throughout the whole life cycle of the infrastructures", explains Ricardo Bittini, Head of Innovation for Area 2, "At the moment, our efforts are focused on the initial phases of the project, during the design, and we aim to take this further into the execution."A good example of this is the more than twenty projects in which Ferrovial Agroman is developing and implementing BIM processes in all the geographical areas, in construction typologies and varied locations such as Crossrail in London, Warrell Creek in Australia, 407 ETR motorway in Canada, motorway Abi Bakr As Siddiq in Saudi Arabia or the BIODOMO project in Granada.
For Teodoro Álvarez-Fadón, Global Head of Innovation, "buildingSMART is not only a perfect mirror of Ferrovial Agroman's geographical diversity with their Chapters structure, but it also covers our broad range of project types through the different phases. For that reason, we could not turn down the chance to join buildingSMART and to become part of their journey to transform the construction industry by contributing to the definitions of the international (open) standards which will dictate the future of our sector." Richard Kelly, buildingSMART International Operations Director stated that "not only would Ferrovial Agroman bring a healthy user perspective to the development of open digital solutions but their professional management expertise would strengthen the management of the Standards Program."The main objective of buildingSMART is to share new information models during creation and operation of buildings and infrastructures throughout the world.
