Two female engineers, Concepción Vicente, from Ferrovial Agroman, and Agnieszka Wisniewska, from Budimex, have been awarded in the “Best Woman Contractor” and “Best Young Woman in Construction” categories respectively.
Two female engineers from Ferrovial have won the European Women In Construction & Engineering Awards 2017 (WICE). These awards distinguish women with an outstanding trajectory regarding construction and engineering in Europe. Their aim is to give visibility to female talent and to contribute towards these sector becoming more enticing for this gender. Concepción Vicente, from Ferrovial Agroman, has won the prize in the category “Best Woman Contractor”.” She commented,
“Winning this award is an extraordinary achievement for me and represents a huge responsibility as a role model within the industry, not just for my team and colleagues, but other professionals and future generations of engineers. What has been priceless is meeting so many other talented women with amazing career paths and sharing our experiences, concerns, lessons learned and powerful examples of progress within the industry.”
Concepción’s professional career is endorsed by 16 years of experience in the construction and engineering sector. She has carried out residential projects, as well as civil works and infrastructures. Currently, she works as Project Manager in Tideway Central.
Agnieszka Wisniewska, from Budimex, has been awarded as “Best Young Woman in Construction”.
“Nowadays when construction is so male dominated, young women have to work extremely hard to be role models in this industry. I am so proud I managed to fulfill my dreams and get to where I am today. I am grateful for what construction has given me, and now, civil engineering is not just my job, it’s part of me!” Agnieszka said.
Agnieszka started her career at Ferrovial back in 2010, when she was still a student. Nowadays, she is a Works Manager. She has participated in several key projects, such as the construction of the Arka Gdynia Stadium, la University Clinical Center en Bydgoszcz and the Gdynia Film Centre.
Apart from Concepción Vicente and Agnieszka Wisniewska, 13 other professionals from Ferrovial were finalists in the following categories: “Best Woman Architect” (Carolina Delgado), “Best Woman Civil Engineer” (Gema Araque, Gemma Teale, Nuria Venero and Olga Calvo), “Best Woman Electrical and Mechanical Engineer” (Ana María Bal), “Best Young Woman Engineer” (Elena Perea and Sofía Agulló), “Best Woman in Tunneling & Underground Construction” (Ana Aser), “Best Female Mentor” (Wanda Rytlewska) and “Best Woman in Highways” (María Isabel Romero).
The awards ceremony was attended by María Dionis, Human Resources General Director at Corporación; Fernando Cendán, Head of the Human Resources Development and Management department; Juan Ramón Pérez, Director of the Construction and Building Line; Cezary Macka, Human Resources Director at Budimex; Mario Móstoles, Construction Director in UK and Ireland; John Pepper, Human Resources Director at Ferrovial Agroman UK; and Laura Brown, Communications and Corporate Responsibility Manager at Ferrovial Agroman UK and Ireland.
