Amey and Arup have begun work on the design for the dualling of a 26-mile section of the A96 in Scotland, following the recent government announcement that an up to £50m contract had been awarded to the partnership.
The A96 is the trunk road linking the cities of Inverness and Aberdeen, passing through various towns and villages along the route.
The Scottish Government has given a commitment to dualling the A96, some 86 miles of upgraded road between Scotland’s two northernmost cities, by 2030. When completed the A96 dualling programme will improve journey times and reliability, improve connectivity and improve road safety for all those who use this route.
The Amey/Arup contract will see the partnership develop and assess the route options for the section of this vital trunk road between east of Huntly and Aberdeen.
Amey’s Account Director Gordon Henderson said:
“We are excited to be starting work on this key infrastructure project, which will have great significance for the region for decades to come. Working closely with Arup we will be assessing the various route options, taking into consideration environmental and community impacts.”
This contract and cooperation between the two companies will achieve the development and upgrading of this vital road link for connecting the region to the east of Huntly with Aberdeen.
