Amey will be working on the extension and upgrading of the TransPennine rail link

The route, connecting Manchester and Leeds, joins the main cities in the north of England

Amey, British subsidiary of Ferrovial Services, together with Network Rail, BAM Nuttall and Arup, will be working on the design of infrastructure options for upgrading of the TransPennine rail link. This route runs between the cities of Leeds and Manchester, crossing through the north of Manchester and providing connections to the cities of Newcastle, Hull, York and Liverpool.

Works include the design and upgrading of civil infrastructures, track, rail systems and electrification. The improvement works on this important railway link began in October 2014 to the east of Leeds.

The project is now at the initial development stage. The first plans will be submitted for consideration to the British Department for Transport in December. These improvements will have a real impact on communities in the north of England, connecting towns and cities, improving journey times, and contributing to the economic development of the region.
