This past February, the institutions visited the construction site where improvements for mobility in southern Tenerife between Oroteanda and Las Chafiras are being made, which Ferrovial Agroman is building along with Ten-Asfaltos and Excavaciones Óscar del Castillo.
This new section, approximately two kilometers long – which more than 50,000 vehicles currently travel on each day – will alleviate the highway’s congestion and give the stretch of roadway higher capacity, since it passes by urban centers.
Among those present at the event were: regional executive president, Fernando Clavijo, Public Works chairman, Pablo Rodríguez, as well as the president of Tenerife’s Cabildo, Carlos Alonso, mayor of San Miguel de Abona, Arturo González, and technicians from the Canary Island government. They all expressed their satisfaction with progress on the project.
“More projects will follow, such as the closing of the Anillo Insular, improvements on the Norte highway, and expansion of the Autopista del Sur.”
“It's a €23 million project that is rather complex. Ferrovial Agroman and its partners will have to build two new exit ramps, drainage work, service roads, and expand the highway platform, all while keeping up with intense traffic. The start of construction experienced a slight setback when a colony of Pimelia tinerfeña, a beetle native to the island, was found, but it was worked out by moving them to another location, and construction is continuing at a good pace.”
What construction on the Oroteanda – Las Chafiras stretch entails
The Oroteanda – Las Chafiras link project consists of two phases: the first, which is currently underway on the left shoulder of Barranco de Archile, aims to improve the Oroteanda link. The second phase is on the Las Chafiras intersection.
The complexity of this project centers on inserting the planned structures in an area with a high density of affected services while managing traffic. Among the updates involved, the execution of transversal drainage work 19 meters wide and 250 meters long under the highway is especially notable. We have the support of Ferrovial Agroman’s Technical Direction, which is fundamental in construction work of this sort.
