On February 10th, Ferrovial Agroman handed over the first project on the Q6 contract at Heathrow Airport.
The N2 Car park team successfully delivered the project despite a number of challenges from the outset. The health and safety performance has been outstanding, evidenced by the fact that the project has been completed injury-free.
The project team managed an additional milestone when a partial handover was required for weather contingency purpose over the Christmas period. Hitting the target, 80% of the parking bays were handed over for beneficial use.
The project involved upgrading the existing N2 Staff Car park into the new N2 Business Car park which meant a wide range of works: structural, M&E and data connections. Works included resurfacing the entire car park with flexible pavement, redeveloping the existing bus routes and shelters, improving and increasing lighting installations, new signage and structures, construction of a new customer building and installation of operational equipment and connection of services and data networks.

"The N2 car park was first built in 1955 but has been redeveloped several times since. This has partly contributed to poor existing ground conditions and an array of service related complications. It was necessary to apply innovative engineering solutions to overcome these challenges - one such example was an anti-crack membrane which will save the client long term maintenance costs."
The Heathrow Q6 Lot 3 contract was awarded to Ferrovial Agroman in March 2014 and is set to continue until March 2017. Other projects currently being undertaken within the Q6 scope of works are:
- Bravo Taxiway Realignment Project involving the realignment of Alpha and Bravo Taxiways to cater for the new fleet of A380 aircraft. Work commenced on 2nd July 2014 and has already achieved a significant milestone in handing over the first section on the 4th December 2014.
- Asset Replacement projects such as Commercial Advertising, Lakeside sub-station and Life Safety Systems, Airport Resilience Projects and Landside /Airside Roads.
