Press releases

  • The company is working on a project to supply 170,000 cubic metres/day of drinking water in the state of Tamil Nadu, in southern India.
  • The contract is valued at 37.6 million euro and includes management of the plant for 5 years.

Ferrovial Agroman subsidiary Cadagua, which specialises in the design, construction and operation of water treatment plants, has obtained its first contract in India. Just months after opening a commercial office in New Delhi, the company has obtained a contract to design, build, operate and maintain a drinking water treatment plant with a daily capacity of 170,000 cubic metres. The facility will be located in Hogenakkal (Tamil Nadu), in southern India.

The contract, awarded by the Tamilnadu Water Supply and Drainage Board, is worth 37.6 million euro and includes the construction of the facility together with operation and maintenance for 60 months. The Japan Bank for International Cooperation (JBIC) will help fund the project.

IVRCL Infrastructures & Projects will collaborate on the construction of the plant, which aims to use the Cauvery River to supply drinking water to areas affected by drought and fluorosis in the districts of Dharmapuri and Krishnagiri (Tamil Nadu). Hogenakkal is in a popular tourist area, known for its spectacular waterfalls and wealth of flora and fauna.

International expansion

Gaining a foothold in a new market such as India is part of Cadagua’s internationalisation strategy. India, with over 1.1 million people, is one of the global markets with the greatest potential in the water treatment business.

Cadagua has obtained major contracts in Poland and Cyprus in recent months, including the contract to design, build and operate a seawater reverse osmosis (SWRO) desalination plant in Kümkoy (Morphou), in northern Cyprus. The project is being financed by the European Union and has a budget of 27.5 million euro.

Founded in 1971, Cadagua has built over 200 drinking water, desalination and sewage treatment plants, and over 140 industrial water treatment plants. It currently has references in China, Saudi Arabia, Cyprus, Algeria, Tunisia, Chile, Venezuela, Portugal, France, the United Kingdom and Poland.
