On Thursday 26 August 2021 in Środa Śląska, the official opening of the construction of the PepsiCo plant took place with the laying of the cornerstone. The project, whose contractor is Budimex, is the largest investment of PepsiCo in Poland. It is very significant for the development of the Polish economy.
At the opening of the construction site were present, among others, Prime Minister, Mateusz Morawiecki, President of PepsiCo Europe, Silviu Popovici, Mayor of Środa Śląska, Adam Ruciński, President of Legnicka Specjalna Strefa Ekonomiczna S.A., Przemysław Bożek, President of the Management Board of Budimex S.A., Artur Popko, and Managing Director of ARUP, Elżbieta Cichońska.
In the implementation of the investment, Budimex is responsible for the construction of the plant along with internal installations, including electromechanical works and land development as well as technical infrastructure. The value of the investment exceeds PLN 350 million. The contract will be executed in stages in the years 2021–2025.
The area of the building plot is 30 ha and the construction area is 54,700 m2. The building will have the highest ecological parameters. It will be the world’s first PepsiCo plant whose design solutions will aim at the reduction of its carbon footprint at the construction stage. The plant will be equipped with advanced and the most efficient production lines with the lowest energy, water and gas consumption per 1 kg of production. The building will also be equipped with a water and process heat recovery system with heat conversion for cooling and heating.
With environmental protection in mind, a photovoltaic system will be installed on the office building, as well as a high-performance sewage treatment plant and charging points for electric cars. The plant will be climate-neutral.
