The Zelazny Most tailings facility in Poland
Budimex, the Polish subsidary of Ferrovial Agroman, have signed a contract with the KGHM Polska Miedz S.A. tailings plant that will see the two partners work together in the first stage of expansion of the Żelazny Most tailings facility. The facility, which deals with copper ore flotation waste from all KGHM mining plants, will see the use of modern construction technologies to provide the continued safe use of the site. The Southern Section of the storage facility will take place in two stages with Budimex having won the tender for the first stage. The work in this first stage involves preparatory works as well as construction of dams surrounding the Southern Section. In terms of both hydrotechnical and the environmental aspects, the safest option for the structure and sealing will be constructed. Target capacity for the Southern Section is 170 million m3, with the length of the outer dams about 6400 m, at a maximum height of 60 m, and beach width of 200 m. The first stage of the project is expected to be completed by the end of 2021. This will allow the the commencement of depositing post-flotation waste over the whole Southern Section. The signed contract amounts to a total value of PLN 578 million.
