Ditecpesa, subsidiary of Ferrovial Agroman working in development, manufacture and marketing of asphalt products, took part in October in the Argus 2016 conference, (Argus Asia-Pacific & Middle East Bitumen 2016 conference) one of the largest events in the world on bitumen.
This year’s conference was held in Singapore and focused on information management and technological innovation. Ditecpesa spoke in the technology and innovation session about ‘Innovations in Production, Technology and Environmental Influence,’ where those attending were able to learn of the latest advances in the production of bitumen.
Supply capacity, fall in demand and oil price volatility have resulted in a significant drop in the prices of bitumen asphalt since October 2015, and this has led buyers, sellers and manufacturers to adjust their marketing strategies. In this scenario, Ditecpesa has, according to Managing Director Javier García, “extended its research and production lines with the use of new materials to improve the flexibility and durability of the asphalt which Ferrovial Agroman can offer its clients.”
“Having the right grade of bitumen for flexible pavements is key to achieving highly durable and safe road infrastructure”, said Javier García. “The research being carried out by Ditecpesa and the technology it employs means that it is significantly improving the quality, manufacturing process and useful life of bitumen.”
As a result of such innovations in production, Ditecpesa has also improved its environmental credentials.
“With the use of new chemical additives and nano-materials to produce hybrids, we are able not only to boost the properties of the mixture, but also to reduce the temperatures and timescales required in its manufacture, thereby reducing our CO2 emissions and increasing the competitivity of our products”.
