Ferrovial ranks in the top 10 Spanish companies in terms of contribution to the county’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP). This data has been obtained from the ranking prepared by Jorge Díaz-Cardiel Torres - Managing Director of Advice Strategic Consultants, and economic and business consultant - who has elaborated in his book Las empresas y los empresarios más exitosos de España (The most successful companies and entrepreneurs in Spain.) Among the ten positions in the list are: Santander, BBVA, Gas Natural Fenosa, Inditex, Mercadona, Endesa and Telefónica, which has been distinguished as the company with the greatest impact on GDP.
Both the international Monetary Fund and the Government predict a slowdown in economic growth for the period 2017 to 2021. Díaz-Cardiel nevertheless provides advice in his book for delivering both a successful economy and a successful business performance during this period.
Díaz-Cardiel also highlights the role played by of large companies in recent years, and their importance for the county’s economy:
“The reason why these companies have boosted the economy is that they have always been successful, in good times and in bad”, says Díaz-Cardiel.
Moreover, what is measured in the ranking is not only the direct impact of businesses such as Ferrovial on the economy, but also their indirect effects, since a large percentage of SMEs and entrepreneurs have a high dependence on these companies.
