Madrid, 17 April 2012.- Ferrovial received the Award for Promoting Sustainable Transport and Mobility from the Madrid Transport Consortium, in the Private Sector category.
This distinction recognizes the mobility plan implemented by the company at all its offices. The plan applies to employees, fleet vehicles, business trips and subcontractors as well as to the users of infrastructure (roads and airports) managed by the company.
The first mobility pilot plan was implemented in 2008 at the Calle Albarracín (Madrid) of Ferrovial Services subsidiary Cespa. The plan is currently operational at the Ferrovial Agroman and Ferrovial Corporación offices, and it is being rolled out at Ferroser and Cintra.
The company will survey employees to obtain information on their mobility practices and willingness to participate in different initiatives. Recent lines of action implemented include a campaign to encourage carpooling, via deAaB, which connects people whose commuting needs coincide. This method reduces travel time, costs and carbon emissions. The company also reserves parking spaces for high-occupancy vehicles. Ferrovial also organizes courses on efficient driving, which provides average savings of 15% in fuel consumption.
Madrid city government recognized Ferrovial's sustainable mobility initiatives with the "Muévete Verde" award in September 2011.
The Awards for Promoting Sustainable Transport and Mobility conclude the activities organized for the Transport Consortium's 25th anniversary. The Consortium also gave awards in the categories of public institutions, city governments, and events.
