Ferrovial Services has been selected by the Town Council of Riveira, in
La Coruña (Galicia), as electricity supplier and provider of the town’s integrated public lighting service. The contract also covers renovation of the public street lighting facilities, which will be updated to
LED technology and managed with the
latest point-to-point remotely controlled systems.
8,600 new light sources and an advanced remote control system
In just under six months,
Ferrovial Services has changed
8,600 conventional sodium vapour, metal halide or mercury light points used in Riveira to LEDs. More than 6,500 of these new light points are fitted with an
advanced smart lighting system which allows point-to-point remote control. This means that condition and energy consumption of the lights can be monitored in real time, allowing for total control and programming of lighting levels according to needs.
Multiple benefits through energy efficiency
One of the many benefits of this new lighting system is energy savings for the Riveira Town Council. Ferrovial Services is meeting set targets to realise savings of over 70%. But in addition to energy and cost savings, the new LED lighting provides other benefits, such as
improved lighting quality and
colour distinction, which in turn leads to a greater sense of
safety for residents.
Moreover, the remotely controlled point-to-point system reduces the number of calls regarding non-functioning lights, since the system detects these automatically and triggers an alert before city residents do, thus
optimising lighting management.
Ferrovial Services’ commitment to energy efficiency
This contract is another addition to Ferrovial Services’ portfolio of energy efficiency and public lighting maintenance contracts, some of the most important of which are the lighting contract for Madrid, and the energy services provided in
Torrejón de Ardoz,
San Sebastián de los Reyes and
Pozuelo de Alarcón, amongst others.
