The HETCo joint venture, comprising our subsidiary Ferrovial Agroman and construction company Laing O’Rourke, and which is currently building Heathrow Airport’s new Terminal 2A, recently received two international distinctions for health & safety and sustainability.
The joint venture received the Constructing Excellence 2013 Health & Safety Award for Heathrow Terminal 2A. The award acknowledges the consortium’s commitment to employees and suppliers in connection with workplace safety as well as implementing risk prevention programmes. The judging panel rated the JV as an industry leader, reporting that: “Achieving an AFR of 0.05 on a billion pound project on a complicated site is a remarkable achievement and testament to widespread adoption of a positive health and safety culture.”
HETCo was also recognised for its innovative approach to environment and sustainability with the Green Apple international award, recognising excellent environmental and sustainability practices in the construction of T2A.
The organization described the project as a pioneer in the sector, highlighting the increase in waste segregation rates, from 33% in February 2012 to 70% in November 2012. It also underlined the reduction in CO2 emissions, from 3 tonnes to 1.13 tonnes per 100k pounds of turnover.
