This competition was organized under the auspices of the Mayors of Gdansk, Gdynia and Sopot, the three cities that make up the TriCity region in Poland. Residents in the area were able to pick their favorite projects online.
In the "Metamorphosis of the TriCity" category, voters chose the Karczemki junction. For the project, Budimex built a new transport node that solved the recurrent issue of gridlocks. The Polish subsidiary of Ferrovial Agroman carried out the works without closing any streets. Thanks to the new junction, access to the Lech Walesa airport and to the centre of Gdansk is now much more efficient.
Additionally, the Terminal 2 building at the Rebiechowo airport was chosen as the best project in the "Business Aura" category. Residents appreciated the modern architecture of the new T2 as well as the upgrade in its operational capacity, which doubled from 2.5 to 5 million passangers per year. This building already won the "Construction of the Year" award in 2011.
Both the Karczemki junction and the Rebiechowo T2 passenger terminal were completed ahead of their respective deadlines.
