ESSA to acquire 98% of the Portuguese parking firm ESLI for 2,700 million pesetas

Estacionamientos Subterráneos (ESSA), a stock exchange listed company, the majority stock in which is held by the Ferrovial Group, has reached an agreement that will be formalised in a few days, to acquire an additional stake of 78% of Parques de Estacionamientos de Lisboa, S.A. (ESLI) for 2,700 million pesetas. Through that operation, ESSA will control 98% of the company. ESLI is the leading company in the underground parking lot sector in Lisbon, which now manages 2,400 parking spaces in the capital of Portugal and has been awarded four new parking lots with 900 spaces.

This acquisition is in addition to the purchase, last May, of a further 22% of Estacionamientos Guipuzcoanos (Eguisa). Due to this, ESSA, which already held 20.89% of its capital, now controls 42.89% of the company. Eguisa now manages three parking lots in Madrid and another three in San Sebastián, with a total of 3,443 parking spaces.

More than 71,000 parking spaces

This makes ESSA the leader in the parking lot sector as it fully manages more than 71,000 parking spaces in Spain and abroad. In the rotation parking space sector, ESSA manages more than 23,000 spaces, and in that of above ground regulated spaces (Blue Zone), through Dornier, it manages a total of 48,000 spaces in the main Spanish cities.

The revenue of ESSA in 1997 amounted to 3,055 million pesetas 6.7% more than in 1996 – and it foresees exceeding 6,100 million pesetas in 1998.

Also, the Board of Directors meeting of ESSA, held last 23rd June, ratified the appointment of José Antonio Sánchez, General Manager of Ferrovial Aparcamientos, as General Manager of Estacionamientos Subterráneos.
