- The company recovers more than 91% of its waste by reusing and recycling
Ferrovial, through its Construction division, has been recognized for the second consecutive year for its good performance in waste management across the projects it develops in Spain, Portugal, the United Kingdom, Australia, and the United States, in accordance with the criteria of the Zero Waste standard of Société Générale de Surveillance (SGS).
Ferrovial generated 6.24 million tons of waste across the five regions reviewed in 2025. Of this total, more than 91% was reused, recycled, or recovered. In addition, the company has raised its compliance rating. This means that, beyond meeting all the mandatory requirements to obtain the certification, Ferrovial has reinforced the proper segregation of waste, its traceability, operational control, and continuous improvement processes in its management.
Renewing this certification consolidates Ferrovial’s leadership in responsible waste management. It also strengthens the company’s commitment to resource efficiency, the circular economy and reducing its environmental impact in the areas where it operates.
Zero Waste certification is awarded to organizations that manage to recover more than 90% of the waste they generate, thus avoiding its disposal in landfills. This recognition certifies efficient management based on reuse and recycling, guaranteeing high standards of use and proper disposal of non-recoverable waste. The SGS Zero Waste standard aligns with major international initiatives promoted by organizations such as the OECD, the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP, Agenda 2030), and the European Union, which emphasize the importance of moving towards circular economy models.
The Swiss multinational SGS is a global leader in testing, inspection, and certification. With more than 145 years of service excellence, it aims to help organizations achieve the highest standards of quality, regulatory compliance, and sustainability.
