Ferrovial awarded $70M FM 1960 expansion and rehabilitation in Houston

  • Webber will widen FM 1960, one of in the main arterial road in the area, from four to six lanes.

Ferrovial, via its United States construction subsidiary Webber, has been selected by the Texas Department of Transportation for the expansion and rehabilitation of FM 1960 in Harris County, northern Houston for $70 million (about €60 million).

The contract includes widening FM 1960, a principal arterial road, from four to six lanes, with a total project length of 2.84 miles. It also includes about 170,000 square yards of concrete pavement, 165,000 square feet of bridge deck and 2.59 million pounds of steel tub girders.

The project comprises the construction of a four-lane main lane overpass bridge over West Lake Houston Parkway. It is expected to be completed in late 2023.

The expansion and rehabilitation of FM 1960 is the latest projected awarded contract to Ferrovial’s American subsidiary. In 2020, Webber was also awarded the upgrade of IH 35 in Laredo, Texas, worth $115 million, and the construction of the SL12 highway in Dallas worth $301 million, which strengthens the Ferrovial’s presence in the United States, its main market by revenues. Ferrovial Construction has been serving this market for 15 years and has built vital infrastructure, including LBJ Expressway in Dallas and segments of the SH 99 Grand Parkway in Houston.
