BAA appoints new divisional managing director

Press releases

London, Friday 30 May 2008. BAA today announces the appointment of a managing director for the new airports division, with responsibility for running six of BAAs seven UK airports. Stephen Peat will join BAA on 1st July from Amey, part of the Ferrovial group. He is currently director of operations for the Tube Lines consortium, which is regenerating the Jubilee, Northern and Piccadilly lines on behalf of London Underground.

Mr Peat will oversee Gatwick, Stansted, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Aberdeen and Southampton airports.

Colin Matthews, chief executive officer of BAA, said: Following the appointment of Mike Brown to manage Heathrow airport, I am delighted to have secured the services of Stephen Peat, who has a strong track record in managing change and growing businesses in challenging operational environments. I am determined to build a strong team, which will deliver higher standards and better airport facilities for passengers and airlines and, while we clearly have work to do, this latest appointment to the senior team is a further step in the right direction.

Prior to taking up his role at Tube Lines, Stephen Peat was managing director of Amey Rail and also worked in senior positions at Tarmac and Wimpey construction.

Stephen Peat said: BAA faces many challenges and none more significant than improving the experience for the millions of passengers who use the airports, through great service standards and new facilities. I am looking forward to joining the BAA team and playing my part in building confidence in the company and its people.
