  • The bridge will be part of the Cantabria-Mediterranean High-Speed Railway Corridor, enabling passenger and goods traffic between the two coasts
  • The bridge site is located in the municipalities of Valtierra and Castejón, both in the Navarra autonomous region

Ferrovial has been commissioned to build a bridge across the Ebro River for the Zaragoza-Pamplona High Speed Railway Line. This project is part of the future Cantabria-Mediterranean Corridor, which will provide a rail connection between the Mediterranean area and Spain’s northern coast, bypassing the center of the Iberian Peninsula.

The 700-meter bridge, which will be 14 meters wide, will carry rail traffic across the Ebro River. It will be developed on land located in the municipalities of Valtierra and Castejón, both in the Navarra autonomous region.

The European gauge track will be suitable for passenger and freight traffic. Construction is expected to take three-and-a-half years.

The construction of the viaduct over the Ebro River and the rail connection with the Castejón-Comarca de Pamplona section of the Zaragoza Pamplona High Speed Line has been planned in direct coordination with the Government of Navarra, the Spanish Ministry of Agriculture, Fishing, Food and Environment, the municipalities of Valtierra and Castejón, Red Eléctrica de España and the companies with facilities located in the area where the work is being carried out.

An initiative under the EU Recovery plan

The project budget amounts to €58.8 million and it will be executed and funded with the European Union’s NextGenerationEU funds as part of the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan for the Spanish economy. This program aims to mobilize public investment through the end of 2026 with the objective of achieving a sustainable, resilient recovery in the Member States.
