- A consortium comprising Ferrovial and EBA will build the new School of Medicine, Nursing and Physiotherapy for the UPV/EHU

Ferrovial and EBA broke ground today for the construction of the new School of Medicine, Nursing and Physiotherapy for the University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU) in Bilbao.
Ferrovial, in consortium with EBA, a subsidiary of Grupo San José, will construct the nine-story building with a floor area of more than 44,500 square meters. The facility, where undergraduate courses in Medicine, Nursing and Physiotherapy will be taught, as well as seven master’s degrees in the area of Health Sciences, is scheduled to open in 2026.
Under the contract, which is worth over €51 million, the partners will also upgrade the surrounding area by replacing sidewalks, improving accesses, building an interior plaza, and creating a new street to connect the university with Basurto Hospital by means of a pedestrian walkway.
The ground-breaking ceremony was attended by the Mr. Iñigo Urkullu, Lehendakari (President) of the Basque Government, Ms. Cristina Uriarte, Regional Government Minister of Education, Mr. Juan María Aburto, Mayor of Bilbao, and Ms. Elixabete Etxanobe, General Deputy of Bizkaia.
