The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) has selected Webber (a Ferrovial Agroman subsidiary) to expand an 8-mile (13-kilometre) section of the US 281 between Loop 1604 and Borgfeld Drive, in Bexar County, San Antonio. The project has a budget of 192 million dollars (more than 181 million euro) and will take 3 years to be completed.
The contract includes the construction of three new lanes (two for general use and one for high occupancy vehicles) in each direction, together with four interchanges with Loop 1604 and a direct connection to a park-and-ride facility with access to VIA Metropolitan Transit (San Antonio’s public transport system). The necessary frontage roads will be built along with bicycle and pedestrian facilities.
With more than 1.8 million residents, Bexar County is the fourth largest in Texas. It is part of the San Antonio metropolitan area, the third most populous area in the state, after Dallas-Fort Worth and Houston.
