Santiago Bergareche remains on the Board and is appointed Vice Chairman
Today, the Board of Directors of Grupo Ferrovial S.A. appointed Joaquín Ayuso group chief executive; in March, after approval by the Shareholders Meeting, he will be appointed Managing Director. These positions became vacant when Santiago Bergareche informed the Chairman, Rafael del Pino y Calvo-Sotelo, that he wished to step down from his executive responsibilities.
At the suggestion of the Boards Nomination and Remuneration Committee, Joaquín Ayuso was appointed General Manager of Grupo Ferrovial, which position also entails that of Chairman of the Management Committee, and chief executive responsibilities in the Group. Santiago Bergareche will remain on the Board as an independent director and has also been appointed Vice-Chairman of the company.
Bergareche joined Ferrovial in April 1995 as Chairman of Agromán. In 1999 he was appointed CEO of Grupo Ferrovial S.A. Since joining the group he has worked in close cooperation with the current Chairman, Rafael del Pino, on a number of projects which have placed Ferrovial to the fore of the construction industry not only in Spain but also in the rest of Europe.
Joaquín Ayuso, a civil engineer, aged 46, joined Ferrovial in 1982. Having occupied various positions of responsibility in the construction area, in 1992 he was appointed general manager of the Construction division; whilst in this position, he completed the successful merger between the groups Construction division and Agromán. In 1999, he was also appointed CEO of Ferrovial Agromán S.A., the company arising from that merger. Since that time, Ayuso has led the company in top position in the sector in Spain in terms of sales volume.
