Amey, road maintenance in the UK
  • Amey to take charge of maintaining the Area 10, a 501 kilometer-long road network in the North West of England.
  • The contract is for 15 years.
  • The UK subsidiary of Ferrovial Servicios already delivers maintenance and repair work in Area 7 and design services in Areas 13 and 14.

Amey, a subsidiary of Ferrovial Services, has been chosen by Highways England to maintain roads in Area 10, which connect the cities of Manchester, Liverpool and environs in the North West of England. The 15-year contract is worth £325 million, equivalent to over €366 million.

With this new contract, Amey will be in charge of maintaining 501 kilometers of roads in Cheshire, Merseyside, Greater Manchester and Lancashire. The contract also covers rectifying defects, emergency response and severe weather services. Amey has made a commitment to fully automate all maintenance work by 2030 in order to remove operatives from harm.

This Ferrovial Services subsidiary is already in charge of maintaining the highways in Area 7, comprising 787 km of roads in the East Midlands, and of delivering design services on 658 km of highways in Areas 13 and 14.

In the area of road maintenance and management, Amey’s clients include Transport Scotland, the Welsh Government, and Transport NI, the Northern Ireland road authority.
