Amey, a subsidiary of Ferrovial Services, has been chosen by UK company United Utilities to maintain 76,000 kilometres of pipe and 42,000 kilometres of water mains. The 5-year contract is worth 225 million pounds (around 268 million euro). Amey will also maintain and upgrade clean water mains for Severn Trent as part of a 5-year contract worth 190 million pounds (around 227 million euro).
Ferrovial, through Ferrovial Services subsidiary Amey, has been awarded two water infrastructure maintenance contracts in the UK worth 415 million pounds (around 495 million euro) in total.
It was chosen by United Utilities to manage water infrastructure in northwest England under a 5-year contract starting in 2015 that is valued at 225 million pounds (around 268 million euro). Amey will handle repair and maintenance of over 76,000 kilometres of pipes and 42,000 kilometres of clean water mains, as well as manage and upgrade the infrastructure, which serves seven million people and 200,000 companies in northwest England.
Ferrovial Services’ subsidiary will also maintain and upgrade Severn Trent's clean water mains in the English Midlands and in Mid-Wales. The contract, valued at 190 million pounds (about 227 million euro), also includes an upgrade of the sewer network, flood alleviation works, and the installation and upgrading of pumping stations.
Ferrovial has obtained other major contracts in the UK in recent months, including road maintenance in East Anglia and Gloucestershire, water infrastructure maintenance in Wales, and operation of a gas grid for Northern Gas.
