Unveiling plans for the new Valdecilla hospital

Smart Hospital Cantabria, a joint venture between Ferrovial Services and SIEC, will expand and upgrade Valdecilla Hospital in Santander and its basic facilities, installing cutting-edge technology at a cost of 101 million euro. It will also manage non-medical related services at Valdecilla during 20 years for 760 million euro. The project was presented today in Santander at an event attended by Ignacio Diego, president of the Cantabria regional government, and Íñigo Meirás, CEO of Ferrovial, among others. Íñigo Meirás, CEO of Ferrovial: "We are thrilled to be chosen by the Cantabria government for one of the most innovative contracts awarded in Spain. The model chosen for installing cutting-edge equipment will stimulate the regional economy, with an investment of over 100 million euro, and generate jobs in the next two years. Valdecilla will become an example of efficiency, competitiveness, innovation and responsibility and will become one of the leading hospitals in Spain." Work on the new hospital will commence in the coming days, creating around 800 direct and indirect jobs in the region. The project includes the construction of three tower blocks with examining rooms for diverse specialties, operating theatres, 348 new in-patient rooms, a maternity clinic, laboratories and a recovery area. The hospital will also have new accesses and facilities in the North and South zones, as well as tunnels connecting the various areas with the 2 de Noviembre building and 35 lifts for staff, patients and visitors. Several installations will be built and upgraded, including a new cafeteria. The hospital will be outfitted with cutting-edge technology, including a new data centre, WiFi network, 3,000 PCs, and high-end medical equipment such as CT and ultrasound scanners and accelerators. Smart Hospital Cantabria will manage non-medical services at Valdecilla Hospital in Santander, in line with the agreement with Cantabria's Health Services. The contract includes the provision of 12 non-medical services for 20 years, replacing 40 existing contracts and including areas such as engineering and maintenance of facilities and medical equipment, energy management, clinical history management, logistics, cleaning, catering and surveillance. Ferrovial has extensive experience in hospital management and maintenance. It has a presence at 144 hospitals in Spain, the UK and Poland, totalling over 41,000 beds. The company has an extensive portfolio of services, including building and medical facility maintenance, call centres, cleaning, and patient transport. The company also applies cutting-edge management systems to improve hospitals' energy efficiency. Ferrovial provides services in the following hospitals: La Paz, Gregorio Marañón and 12 de Octubre, in Madrid; Virgen del Rocío, in Sevilla; and Clínico Universitario, in Valladolid.
