Earth Hour Ferrovial Climate Change International Environment 27 March
  • Once again this year, the company is joining Earth Hour, organized by the NGO WWF
  • The event will take place on March 27

Earth Hour, one of the largest international events for defending the environment, will take place next Saturday, March 27, from 8:30 pm to 9:30 pm local time. This initiative is held every year on the last Saturday of March. Its goal is to raise awareness about climate change worldwide and encourage citizens everywhere to turn out the lights and all electrical devices during that hour.

Earth Hour is an initiative by the NGO WWF. It started in Sydney in 2007 as a symbolic gesture to draw global attention to the climate emergency and the loss of biodiversity. Since then, it has become a worldwide movement. Thousands of cities in almost 200 countries have taken part, leading to iconic images like the Eiffel Tower or the Colosseum with the lights out.

2021 is a crucial year in the fight against climate change, as two key events for the planet will take place: the 15th Biodiversity Conference in Kunming (China) in May, and the 2021 Climate Change Conference in Glasgow (United Kingdom) in November. At both of these events, world leaders will discuss ambitious future plans for protecting the environment in the coming years.

Will you join it?

To take part in the initiative, you simply have to turn off lights, computers, the television, and any device that runs on electricity this Saturday, March 27.

This year, the WWF’s campaign is also calling on all participants to “connect with nature” in various ways. You can find more information here

Ferrovial’s commitment to the environment

The company is taking part in Earth Hour by reinforcing its deep commitment to the environment, biodiversity, and the fight against climate change.

This is evident in its climate strategy and governance, which are integrated into Ferrovial’s business strategy and include scope 1 & 2 & 3 emission reduction targets by 2030 endorsed by the SBTi initiative.

In 2020, the emissions of Scope 1&2 have been reduced by 23.61% in absolute terms and 55.65% in intensity. Scope 3 has decreased by 38.86% in absolute terms compared to the base year.
