On International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, Ferrovial collaborates with the Candelita Foundation, through a donation made on November 25 to support and develop the “CONeLLAS” project.
This is a program from the Candelita Foundation aimed at the protection and care of homeless women living with mental illness who are victims of gender-based violence. The program offers these women support in their daily lives, providing them with a safe space and giving them a sense of community, supporting them in the process of recovering their self-esteem and autonomy. The main objective of the program is to detect and identify the different types of violence suffered by these women, in order to enhance the quality of the care and support that is offered to them.
CONeLLAS offers individual support, as well as group workshops on “The Identification of violence” and “Digital empowerment”, together with leisure activities, which help them to expand their support network and give them a sense of belonging and community in a safe and trusting space. These actions promote the recovery of the victims’ confidence and self-esteem. This can lead to the prevention of future gender-based violence is prevented and the victims feel accompanied so that they can work towards getting back on track with their lives.
As part of this initiative, other activities to raise awareness will be carried out to reinforce Ferrovial’s commitment to this cause, to give greater visibility to this issue, and raise public awareness. For example, canvases with the message “Let’s build a world free of violence against women” have been displayed on some of our most emblematic works in Madrid, such as the Concordia Bridge in Valdebebas, the rehabilitation works in Plaza de Legazpi, or the Francisco de Vitoria University.
Ferrovial, committed to a society free of violence against women
In 2013, the company joined the ‘Companies in support of a society free of gender violence’ project promoted by the Ministry of Equality to raise awareness in society about equality between men and women, as well as to promote respect for fundamental rights to achieve a society that is free of gender violence.
Ferrovial has also developed an internal protocol for dealing with gender-based violence, as included in the 2nd Equality Plan. This protocol provides guidelines to promote the protection of female colleagues who may be victims of this type of violence.
