Those who make a real difference to transport services across the UK were acknowledged at the prestigious National Transport Awards. The awards took place in Westminster Park Plaza in London on the 8th of October and were hosted by Rory Bremner, the much loved impressionist. The 15th anniversary celebration of the event attracted more than 800 senior transport professionals and attendees included the Transport Secretary MP Patrick McLoughlin.
Glasgow Airport was officially given the prestigious title UK Airport of Year and praised for its excellent customer service and continued efforts to increase their number of passengers and launch new routes. Just this year, Glasgow Airport has launched 26 new routes and services including direct flights to Halifax, Budapest, Prague, Nova Scotia; and Las Vegas.
It has been a fantastic year for the airport as back in June they claimed the title ‘Scottish Airport of the Year’ Managing director of Glasgow Airport, Amanda McMillan said: “To have been named both Scottish and UK Airport of the Year is a tremendous honour and it is an achievement the 5,000 people who work at Glasgow Airport can be proud of.”
Heathrow Airport also received an award in the construction category for the construction of T2 by HETCo, a partnership between Ferrovial Agroman and contractor Laing O’rourke.
