COP21 Agreement
The
COP21 Agreement will provide enough certainty in the medium and long term as to unlock investment in low-emission sectors and activities, several of which are already in the Ferrovial portfolio or could be incorporated such as those related to the integrated water cycle, the waste sector, energy efficiency both in buildings and in cities, or new means of "smarter" and more sustainable transport. According to Valentin Alfaya, Quality and Environment Manager, "the existence of a formal agreement on funding needs and requirements for necessary financial infrastructure will facilitate the mobilisation of resources for carrying out these projects in a shorter period than originally planned."
Delivery of commitments in line with COP21
In addition to the
companies and institutions that met in Paris, other lesser-known people have pushed this deal. These included more than 400 Ferrovial employees who signed about 2,500 commitments to the climate on the microsite set up by the Ministry for Agriculture, Food and the Environment. The names of all of them and the more than 1,100,000 commitments signed by the individuals and organisation involved in the 1 million for Climate project have been collected in a book that the Minister for Agriculture, Food and the Environment, Isabel García Tejerina, gave to the Executive Secretary of the U.N. Framework Convention on Climate Change, Christiana Figueres.
Ferrovial's commitment to climate change
Ferrovial supports ambitious commitments on climate change, with the implementation of various relevant initiatives conducted before and after the summit, such as the
Spanish Green Growth Group, the European “Net Zero Buildings” commitment or the “
Paris Pledge for Action” (L’Appel de Paris). The company has also substantially reduced its carbon footprint: since 2009, the intensity of Carbon3 has been reduced by 38.4%, and 28% in absolute terms in all Ferrovial activities: the company currently emits 226,000 tonnes of CO2 less than in 2009. All this is an excellent form of presentation for investors, governments and potential customers, with an eye on a low-carbon economy.
