The company, as a member of the Spanish Group for Green Growth, has promoted this initiative seeking to align the corporate strategies of companies with those of the Government in the environmental field.
Ferrovial has actively participated in the creation of the Spanish National Platform for Climate Action. The company, in its current role as president of the Spanish Group for Green Growth (GECV) has contributed to this initiative together with the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries, Food and Environment. The GECV is composed of small, medium and large companies from all sectors, committed to the environment.
This new Spanish National Platform for Climate Action has been announced by Minister Isabel García Tejerina at the Innovate4Climate fair in Barcelona. The objectives of its creation are to align corporate climate strategies with those of the Government, share and incorporate best practices in mitigation and adaptation, and to measure and integrate the contributions of each party and communicate results to stakeholders. It also actively contributes to the Marrakesh Alliance and serves to identify pioneering solutions, new business models and partnerships to help accelerate climate action and achieve the goals of the Paris Agreement.
Valentín Alfaya, director of Quality, Prevention and Environment of Ferrovial and president of GECV has affirmed that the initiative “will count on the participation of other partners, including NGOs and business associations.” Alfaya revealed that the initiative will play a role in the 23rd meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP 23), to be held in Bonn (Germany) in November 2017.
Finally, Alfaya made a call to work side by side between the administration and civil society. “We will only succeed and accelerate climate action if we work together. The private sector is going to be key. There are great opportunities and we are very happy to work with MAPAMA and the Spanish Office of Climate Change,” he stated.
