Excellence awards, the Ferrovial Agroman and Laing O’Rourke joint venture, HETCo, has once again been recognised by the industry for its innovative approach to environment and sustainability.
HETCo was awarded the Green Apple award for its outstanding record in environmental and sustainability best practice at Terminal 2A, Heathrow.
Project Director Pablo Riesco and Environment and Sustainability Manager Camila Bernal (pictured)collected the award on behalf of HETCo at a ceremony in Swindon on 24th June. The trophies were presented by Doreen Lawrence, OBE – the successful campaigning mother of murder victim Stephen Lawrence, who was studying to become an architect before his tragic death.
The Green Apple panel of judges stated that “Aiming to lead environmental performance in this project, HETCo is setting the benchmarks and pushing perceptions of what can be achieved in this industry. For example, an increase in waste segregation rates from Feb 2012 of 33% to 70% in Nov 2012 and a reduction of CO2 emissions from 3 tonnes to 1.61 tonnes per 100k of turnover.”
The International Green Apple Awards for Environmental Best Practice were launched in 1994 and have since become a prestigious annual event: one of the major award schemes recognising and rewarding environmental endeavour around the world
