Amey to Be in Charge of Carrying Out Construction on the M6 Motorway

Amey Sir Robert McAlpine, a joint enterprise between the infrastructure support services provider Amey and the civil engineering and construction company Sir Robert McAlpine, will begin working on the junction between major motorways in the city of Knutsford (near Manchester) next year, after having been chosen by Highways England.

The work, which is valued at approximately €50 million, includes the construction of a new bridge over the highway to improve the flow of traffic between the M6 motorway and the A556. These improvements will help vehicular traffic move faster, and area pedestrians and cyclists will also benefit from them.

Amey is already responsible for maintaining the East Midlands road network, which belongs to Highways England, and it is the provider for the Area 10 contract that provides road maintenance services all across the northwest, started in April of this year. Moreover, Amey Consulting is in charge of designing maintenance and improvements for almost 840 strategic miles for the road network in Areas 13 and 14.

As for Amey and Sir Robert McAlpine, they have a strong history of joint operations spanning the last 23 years, as they were the first integrated team to work together on the entire supply chain to offer clients and residents value.

Robert Allen, Framework Partnership Director for Amey and Sir Robert McAlpine, stated:

We are delighted to have been selected to deliver the transformation of Junction 19 of the M6 through the Routes to Market Regional Delivery Partnership. Our collaborative approach to delivering this scheme forms part of a comprehensive upgrade of Manchester’s southern access, creating better journeys for those using this road network.
